We love shooting Strawberry Hill House wedding photography so much, we didn’t think twice when it came to our top London Wedding Venues post. The Grade I listed house was designed by and built for Horace Walpole as his summer residence. Horace Walpole was a 17th century Earl and writer credited with writing the first gothic novel in the English language. Why is this relevant? – because he built the house in the same style with striking Gothic Revival architecture.
Described by Walpole as his ‘little gothic castle’ it is truly stunning and makes a beautiful and utterly unique wedding venue. Part castle, part destination villa, its pinnacles, battlements and round tower give it a fairy-tale quality that makes an instant impression when first viewed. Your wedding guests won’t have ever seen a wedding venue quite like it.
Situated just outside Twickenham in South West London the house is available for exclusive use for weddings of up to 100 guests.
This allows you and your guests to really relax and explore the house and gardens. Talking of gardens, they are beautiful. The five-acres of Grade II listed gardens have been lovingly restored to their original appearance using 19th century maps, illustrations and Walpole’s own writings. Charming flower beds, borders, meadows, walks, groves lawns, woodland and an open terrace all make fantastic backdrops in all of our images when we shoot wedding photography at Strawberry Hill House.
The grand gallery is licensed to hold wedding ceremonies. A gorgeous room with fan vaulted ceilings adorned with golden canopies and walls of crimson damask. Originally created to proudly display Walpole’s impressive collection of art work it has capacity for 100 guests.

For smaller more intimate weddings the Round Room has capacity for 40 guests. True to its name it is round because it is situated in the tower. Again, opulent ornate interiors make a fantastic backdrop as do the stunning painted glass windows that throw light around the space.
Us London wedding photographers do love having any extra light to play with.
For larger weddings you can have a combination of the two rooms to create a flexible space to have your wedding done your way. There are many other historic rooms and state apartments. When we shoot wedding photography at Strawberry Hill House, we always enjoy taking our couples to the top of the tower to get some romantic images of them overlooking the gardens.
As the house has such a well-documented and fascinating history it has received generous donations for its restoration. Each time we return to shoot wedding photography at Strawberry Hill House its always heartening to see the progress in restoring it back to Walpole’s original image.
