Haarlem Mill Wedding Photography – Bethan and Matt’s wedding at Haarlem Mill, Derbyshire
As predominantly London wedding photographers we always enjoy getting out of the city to shoot weddings elsewhere in the UK. And this was certainly the case when we headed to Derbyshire to shoot Haarlem Mill wedding photography for Bee and Matthew. This former cotton mill in Derbyshire is set against a rural backdrop and is the most perfect example of industrial chic style. And the perfect venue for engineers Bee and Matthew.
On the day we arrived early so we could catch up with Bee as she made her final preparations in Haarlem Mill’s gorgeous bridal suite. Bee looked amazing in her Andre Hawkes dress. Bridesmaids wore steel blue dresses from Jenny Yoo that really suited them and the style of the wedding. We don’t want to miss out the boys so we can confirm that Matthew wore a smart suit from Clements & Church (Matthew had joked that he would wear a white suit to the wedding so as a nod to that Bee generously allowed him to have a white storm collar put into his suit!) The grooms’ party wore suits from T M Lewin.
The ceremony was held Haarlem Mill’s ceremony room. A characterful and charming room with red brick walls and gentle lighting. It looked fantastic. The ceremony was lovely and included Matt’s sister reading an extract from the children’s classic Paddington (both Bee and Matthew’s favourite when they were children)
After the ceremony, there was a chance to take some romantic portrait images of Bee and Matthew along with some group shots too. Guests all enjoyed a drinks and canapes reception in The Upper Lounge. A gorgeous New York loft-style bar. The wedding reception was held back in the Ceremony room that had now been dressed ready for the wedding breakfast. It looked stunning.
Now when we talk about little touches, we usually mean wedding favours bought online. But not with these two. Each table had a plywood table number and the table plan and order of the day were also printed on plywood. This was all done by Bee and Matthew themselves. Add to that amazing lighting and running foliage and simple white flowers arranged by the clever team at Tineke Floral designs and the overall effect was Scandi style Boho perfection. The cake, made by Ruby Lou’s cake company, looked amazing and sat on a concrete cake stand made by Bee’s father. (you don’t have to look far to see where Bee got her talents from!)
Entertainment during the day was provided by magician Nick Stein. Though Bee and Matthew describe his style more as ‘hustling’. He was brilliant and his scams and tricks were met with screams of delight and wonderment.
When it came to planning the wedding party Bee and Matthew left nothing to chance. There was a live band with a break after their first set for sausage or bacon sandwiches. Offering sustenance halfway through definitely worked as there was not a moment when the dancefloor wasn’t packed.

“We met Ash of MIKI studios at a friend’s wedding as their photographer, he was super friendly and we honestly thought he was a guest or a friend, he interacted with everyone so well. Neither of us particularly enjoy having our picture taken, so given how comfortable he had made everyone on that day and following a conversation with him in which he completely reassured us that we would only have to spend 10 minutes taking posed photos – we booked him as soon as we had confirmed our date!”
